Hold on

I’d like to believe that when you let someone go,

You’re inviting a new part of yourself in.

It doesn’t mean that you’ve forgotten how you smiled

when you heard his name or

you’ve forgotten the way he swatched his fingers on your wrist.

It just means that you’re

ready to memorize someone else’s rhymes and reasons.

You’re on the edge of jumping down the ledge

but for yourself.

I think yourself first is important

when someone walks away-

because, so many times,

we lose ourselves when loving someone else’s demons.

Be friends with your mind

Comfort your own heartbeat.

And if you come across someone

who understands your journey

try to hold on to them as long as they wish to stay.

Let go of what needs to go

but remember to hold on to yourself.
